What are the benefits?

Beyond academic benefits, chess helps children develop vital life skills, such as: Patience and resilience, Decision-making and forward-thinking, Emotional regulation and sportsmanship.

Chess requires children to evaluate consequences, learn from mistakes, and persevere through challenges, as well as strongly supporting the development of executive functions. These refer to a group of high-level mental skills, developed in the prefrontal cortex of the brain, that enable planning, sustained focus, self-control, following instructions, and effective management all of which are essential for success both in the classroom and beyond.

We aim to deliver age-appropriate, engaging lessons that make chess enjoyable, while reinforcing these valuable cognitive and personal skills.

Student development

Regular participation strengthens concentration, memory, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, resilience, and emotional regulation—skills that transfer directly into the classroom and everyday life.

Positive mindset

Chess also encourages perseverance, independent thinking, and the confidence to learn from mistakes, helping pupils develop a positive mindset towards learning.

School benefits

Our programme provides a structured enrichment opportunity that supports wellbeing, character development, and cognitive growth, aligning with wider educational priorities.
